A mother of a one year old son has been banned from having custody of her son, after been charged by the police after she allegedly filmed herself torturing the boy to get back at his father.
Gruesome visuals shows the terrified baby wailing as his hand is burned with a lighter, he is hit in the chest and is taunted by a woman while he’s strapped into a car seat.
In other videos the child appeared to have trouble breathing as a plastic carrier bag was stuffed in his mouth and then placed over his head and tied in a knot.
It was claimed that the boy, Jaiden, was abused by his 23-year-old mother, Jamelle Peterkin, because she was upset that his father had a new girlfriend.
Peterkin, who inhabit in Texas, was charged with child endangerment and barred from seeing the boy while she is free on bail following a court appearance.
Ra’Neicha Broadnax, the boy’s paternal aunt, told CW39 NewsFix that she alerted police after 64 videos of the child being abused were sent to her brother’s mobile phone.
In one of the videos a woman says to the child: “Tell your daddy that’s what happens when you sit around and play with people.”
The woman adds: “You just want to keep playing so this is what you get. That’s too bad, Jaiden. Too f****** bad.”
Broadnax, who lives across the country in Virginia, called police after her brother’s girlfriend found the videos on his phone.
PEOPLE magazine reports that the abuse took place on March 13 as she sat in her car with the child.
Janelle also allegedly burned the boy with a lit cigarette while she filmed him.
Investigators later viewed photos and videos of the alleged abuse, according to court documents.
The Harris County, Texas, Sheriff’s Office said Janelle admitted to sending the footage as an act of spite, to show her ex-boyfriend that he did not care enough about their baby.
An order of protection was issued on Monday, mandating she not be within 200 feet of the child, who is now living with Janelle’s mother.
She was released on $15,000 bond, while her next court appearance is May 15.
She has not entered a plea to her three charges and has not retained an attorney, according to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
The boy’s aunt, who is the sister of Janelle’s ex-boyfriend, says Janelle sent more than 30 videos to her ex-boyfriend on April 13.
“In one video, she spat in his face twice,” the aunt alleges. “She put a cigarette lighter to his hand and he was screaming. Janelle then said, ‘Blame your daddy and his new girlfriend.’”
“Some of the videos he (the baby) was just crying. He is screaming at the top of his lungs,” the aunt alleged.
The Harris County Sheriff's Office, who investigated and arrested Peterkin last week, told the Houston Chronicle that Peterkin admitted making the videos to show her ex that "he did not care enough" about their child.
Broadnax said her brother was unaware of the abuse and learned of the allegations when he was watching TV in jail.
The boy is now in the custody of Peterkin's family, said Broadnax.
