Thiago Silva edges closer to Chelsea move

Thiago Silva's transfer to Chelsea is 'almost done' after his last game for Paris Saint-Germain ended in defeat in the Champions League final, according to reports.

Kingsley Coman's second-half header in Lisbon saw Bayern Munich win their sixth European Cup and deprived the Brazilian defender and PSG their first Champions League title.

The centre back gave an emotional farewell to the Ligue 1 champions after the defeat, following which The Athletic reported that he is now extremely close to joining Chelsea after eight years and seven league titles at PSG.

Blues boss Frank Lampard is looking to overhaul his defence this summer after his side conceded 79 goals across all competitions in 2019-20.

But reports suggest he is now closing in on a surprise move for the 35-year-old centre back, who confirmed his desire to play at the next World Cup in 2022.

'It was my last game in Paris. I am sad. I apologise to the fans,' Silva - who turns 36 next month - told French outlet RMC Sport.

'I thank all the fans for their love. I will return to Paris and this club that I love in another role.

'I want to play three to four years still and be part of Brazil team in the Qatar World Cup.'

PSG boss Thomas Tuchel also heaped praise on the Brazilian in his post-match press conference after it was confirmed Sunday night's defeat in Lisbon was the defender's final match for the club

The German boss said it was a joy to have managed him and that he will forever remain 'his player'.

'Thiago Silva was my captain, it was a pleasure to have a player of his quality and personality,' Tuchel said.

'Whatever the decision, he will always be my player. He is in my heart and it has been incredible this journey with him.
