Barcelona legend and former player under Pep Guardiola, Xavi, has confirmed that his formal boss is targeting a move for Dele Alli to Manchester City.
Xavi who claimed has discussed targets with Pep Guardiola said the City boss will be handed a transfer budget of around £200m.
It was reported last month by MEN Sport that Dele Alli, Tottenham midfielder, was among the players - including Danny Rose and Kyle Walker - on Pep’s wanted list this summer.
Guardiola has told Manchester City director of football, Txiki Begiristain, to prioritise English players as targets for next season as he continues to overhaul the City squad.
Xavi, who still maintains a close contact with his former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola, said Dele Alli fits the bill perfectly.
“I speak with Pep, and I know he thinks it is important to sign English players," he told the Sun. “I am sure in the summer he will look also across Europe for players to improve the squad, but also I expect him to look in the Premier League as well.
“At the moment the best English player there is and also one of the best in Europe is Dele Alli.
“We are looking at a very special player.
“Technically he is the sort of player that Pep likes, the sort of player that suits the style of game that Pep likes his teams to play.
“I am sure it is not going to be a player that Tottenham will want to let go, but we know Manchester City have big resources.”
Guardiola who will end up trophy less for the first time in his managerial career is set to be handed a transfer budget of around £200m this summer after to change the situation at the club next season.
However, judging by his age and outstanding season he’s had, if Dele Alli ever decided to leaves White Hart Lane Tottenham Hotspur are expected to demand a world record fee for his exit- just as they did with their formal left back turned winger, Gareth Bale, when he moved to Real Madrid in 2013.
Guardiola is also planning a £50m transfer move for Arsenal striker Alexis Sanchez and also intend to bring in at least three defenders.
There are about as many as 13 Manchester City players that Pep Guardiola is planning to off load at the end of the season.
