Sanchez seal Arsenal victory at Wembley

The gunners took the lead at Wembley stadium in the FA cup semi-final in the first half of extra time, thanks to Alexi Sanchez scrambled finish.

Sanchez's goal in the extra-time has now secured an FA Cup final ticket for Arsenal with league leader Chelsea. They booked a place in the final at the expense of Manchester city that had a goal erroneously
ruled out in the first half when Leroy Sane's cross was ruled to have gone out before Aguero and Raheem Sterling combined to turn it into the net.

Manchester city later took the lead in the second half of normal time through Sergio Aguero that raced clear of Nacho Monreal to put his team ahead in the 62nd minute.

Monreal, who was the culprit in Aguero’s goal, made amends with the equaliser 11 minutes later as he converted Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's cross at the far post to push the game to extra time.

The Gunners really showed great determination to come from behind - and eased the pressure on their manager Arsene Wenger.

Wenger's future, and the uncertainty surrounding it, has now been brought into sharper focus by Arsenal's current 6th position in the table which made them fall outside the Champions League places.

Arsene Wenger needed a statement, as did his team, to ease the growing unrest among Gunners fans at the outlook that he will extend his stay at Emirate.

Both teams had the opportunity to seal the tie in the second half but were unable to convert their chances in front of goal. Yaya Toure and Fernandinho hit the woodwork after the break while Mesut Ozil failed to convert a nice opportunity.

The Chilean, who has scored four goals in his last three appearances at Wembley for Arsenal, settled a contentious semi-final 11 minutes in the first half of the extra time after City defenders failed to clear Mesut Ozil's free-kick.

This made Arsenal triumphant and the manager aiming for a record seventh FA Cup victory.

The win against Manchester City at Wembley will not ease the concerns in the minds of the skeptics but he can point to the victory, and the way in which it was attained, as indication that he could take Arsenal to the promise land. Victory against Chelsea in the final on May 27 would reinforce Wenger’s case for continuity.

The embattled manager pumped his fists towards the skies as the referee blew the final whistle and smiled with delight - he may yet win a trophy amid the worst dissatisfaction of his reign at the club.
