2016 was a good year to be CEO of the leading search engine company Google, for Sundar Pichai.
CNN Tech reports that Pichai received nearly $199.7 million in compensation last year according to a filing on Friday from Google's parent company, Alphabet (GOOGL, Tech30).
This figure was double the amount Pichai received in 2015.
Pichai received a stock award for $198.7 million in addition to his base pay of $65,000, this lavish pay was attributed to Pichai's promotion to CEO and "numerous successful product launches." by the company's compensation committee.
The new Google CEO's success includes boosting sales from its core advertising and YouTube business, while also investing in machine learning, hardware and cloud computing.
His efforts at unveiling new smartphones, a virtual reality headset, a router, and a voice controlled smart speaker similar to the Amazon Echo to the market in 2016 has started to pay off.
In the recent quarter Google netted a nearly $3.1 billion revenue, from their hardware and Cloud services, which is a gain of about 50% from the same quarter a year earlier.

Pichai took over from Lary Page, co-founder and previous CEO of Google, when Page decided to focus on growing new businesses under the parent company Alphabet.
