Buffon says he want fans to be sad when he quits football

Juventus veteran goalkeeper -- Gianluigi Buffon, Arguably the finest goalkeeper of his generation and has collected plenty of silverware during his illustrious career, winning six Serie A titles with Juve and lifting the World Cup with Italy in 2006 -- celebrated his 100th Champions League game for Juventus in typical fashion on Wednesday, making a string of brilliant saves in a 2-0 win at Monaco in the first leg of their semi-final.
Buffon, who is now 39-year-old, has been Juve goalkeeper for over 16 years.

He told UEFA after yesterday match that his motivation is to continue proving he belongs at the highest level and wants people to be sad when he eventually ends his playing career.

'In every game I want to show that I deserve to play at this level despite my age.'

'I work hard every day for this objective. The day I quit, I want people to be sad about it. I don't know if I am achieving it or not, but playing in a team like this undoubtedly helps. The important thing is to be ready when the team needs me. As long as I can do that, I consider myself satisfied and happy.

'They (Juventus) had two chances and scored two goals, we had many and scored none, that says it all', said 18-year-old striker Mbappe, who had scored 18 goals in his last 18 competitive games, including three in the 6-3 aggregate win over Borussia Dortmund in the last eight.

Buffon -- although has never won the Champions League, losing two finals with Juventus, in 2003 and 2015 -- has gone over 600 minutes without conceding a goal, he has only conceded two goals in this Champions League campaign.

Buffon told BeIN Sports television:

'We approached the game the way we had to and did what he had to do.'

'We do have an advantage but we also know Monaco have excellent players capable of scoring away. It's not over.'
