Man cuts grandson's leg for alleged attempted theft

A 48- year-old farmer has been arrested after he cut his grandson's leg with machete for allegedly trying to steal his items at Nyamebekyere, a farming community near Enchi in the Western Region, Ghana.
According to the Enchi Police, the accused, Asubire Azure, also known as Baba Alhassan returned home from town and accused the boy, Michael Atanga, 13, of trying to jump through his ceiling to steal some undisclosed items, Police source revealed to Skyy Power FM's Jolly Breakfast Show Co-Host Nhyiraba Paa Kwesi.

The accused beat the victim mercilessly and inflicted deep cutlass wounds on his right leg He then locked him up in the room and left the leg to rot, until after a week when some neighbours got wind of the boy's predicament, arrested the grandfather and handed him over to the police on Monday, May 1, 2017.

The victim was admitted at the Enchi Government Hospital the same day where his rotten right leg was amputated Wednesday morning, May 3.

Superintendent Raymond Kofi Erzuah, the Enchi District Police Commander, who confirmed the incident, said suspect has been charged of causing harm and is being processed for his first court appearance.
