After the Spanish state brought a £13million tax-fraud case against the Portuguese superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo has informed Real Madrid of his intention to leave the club. Paris Saint-Germain lead the chase, after owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi held talks with agent Jorge Mendes the night of the Champions League final in Cardiff.
However, United made serious attempts to re-sign Ronaldo in the summer of 2013 and he retains a genuine love for the club. Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward would love to bring Ronaldo back to Manchester. Relations with Mourinho soured towards the end of the pair's time together at Real Madrid, but a shared will to succeed could re-unite the pair.
The problem, however, is that Ronaldo may just be posturing to ensure he is backed relentlessly by his employers during this tax case and Madrid will demand over £200m.
Likelihood: 2/5
