On January 10, 2013 Evans was given the Ghanaian passport according to the document from the Nigeria Police Force.
His wife's Ghanaian passport allegedly bears the name Precious Asare and date of birth as July 1985. The children's passports also bear the last name Asare and were all issued in Accra.
Ibrahim Idris, the Inspector General of Police, said that Evans has a Ghanaian passport and alerted the Ghanaian authorities to tighten up modalities for the issuance of passports at the meeting of West African Police Chiefs in Accra on Tuesday.
He said “Nigerians are celebrating the arrest of the Ghanaian-Nigerian. Ghanaian because he has a Ghanaian passport something you guys have to look at.”
Due to the nature of Evans work, he moved his family to Ghana. He also owns two houses in Accra, his wife, Mrs Uchenna Precious Onwuamadike is said to reside with her children in one of the properties, a duplex located at the Spintex Road in Accra.
