Pregnant woman raped and beheaded by suspected herdsmen

A pregnant middle-aged woman was killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen in Ekpoma, Esan South-West Local Government Area of Edo State.


This incident took place at Ukpenu on Wednesday; weeks after two women were killed by herdsmen in Ewu.

The attackers waylaid her on way to the farm where they raped and killed her.

A source  revealed that the woman was beheaded by the herdsmen

The source added “Suspected Fulani people raped and beheaded a pregnant woman in Ekpoma, Edo State. So, there is a protest now at Ukpenu, Ekpoma,” the source said.

“It happened today (Wednesday). People went to their farms and the woman was accosted, raped and beheaded”

A major road was blocked with burning tyres to protest the death of the deceased by angry youths.

Mr. Moses Nkombe, the Police Public Relations Officer could not make a comment through phone calls but responded to a text message sent to him as of press time.

There have been several complaints about the alleged criminal activities of herdsmen in the state; this made the State House of Assembly to formulate a grazing bill which passed its second reading on
Tuesday.

 Mr. Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma, the house member representing Egor and Ikpoba-Okha constituency in the Federal House of Representatives,has called for the prohibition of open grazing in the state.

 In a letter addressed to the Speaker of the House, Dr. Justin Okonoboh, Agbonayinma urged the assembly to take extreme measures in protecting lives and property in the state and the movement of herdsmen
