| U.S first Lady: Melania Trump |
Melania Trump, the U.S. first lady, was noticeably absent on Friday, in the first part of the programme for spouses put together as part of the Group of 20 summit in Hamburg, Germany.
Other spouses of the G-20 leaders sett off on a boat tour of Hamburg Harbour as planned, among those present are Joachim Sauer, German Chancellor Angela Merkel's husband; Brigitte Macron, French President Emmanuel Macron's wife; and Philip May, British Prime Minister Theresa May's husband.
Sophie Gregoire Trudeau, the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's wife, took their 3-year-old son, Hadrien, along.
The group's next schedule include having lunch before heading to a climate research centre, a part of the visit Sauer insisted upon and which is rather controversial, given President Donald Trump’s recent move to pull the U.S. out of the Paris Agreement on climate change.
The spouses are meeting while their partners deliberate in Hamburg’s main conference centre. (dpa/NAN)
