South Africa started its first online auction of rhino horn on Wednesday, the auctioneer company confirmed, this conservation groups have said the legal, domestic sale would encourage poachers.
“It has started and the sellers will only be available for comment after the (three-day) auction,” a representative of Pretoria-based Van’s Auctioneers who declined to be named, told AFP.
