Man, 30 burnt alive by angry mob after stealing amplifier in Mosque

Location of Indonesia
A 30 year-old man was set on fire in Indonesia after angry mob accused him of stealing a three unit audio amplifier from a mosque, the Police said.
Bekasi Police criminal unit chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Rizal Marito said the people chased the man after he was seen coming out from a mosque in Bekasi district, near the Indonesian capital, with the amplifier.

“The mosque’s caretaker shouted ‘Thief!’ and people chased him,” he said.

He was caught about two kilometers from the mosque, he was beaten and the crowds poured petrol on him setting him on fire. He died on the spot from injuries and severe burns.

Rizal Marito said that residents of Suka Tenang should not have attacked the man, identified only as MA, who died after he was burned alive on Wednesday.

"For the people involved in the attack, we will process the case. It is certain that those who burned him will be taken into custody," he said.

"Results from the investigation indicate that the burned victim was indeed a thief who stole the mosque's amplifiers," Rizal said as quoted by wartakota.tribunnews.com.

According to the police, the victim’s family will not press charges. Vigilante justice is common in Indonesia, where public does not trust the police and takes laws in their hands.
