Barcelona signs Philippe Coutinho for £145m, set release clause at £355million

Barcelona confirmed they completed the signing of Liverpool's midfielder Philippe Coutinho for a staggering £145million.

Following the sensational transfer, the Catalan giants revealed in an official statement on their website that the Brazilian's buy-out clause will be a whopping £355million.

But how does this compare with the likes of other high-profile stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Neymar?

During the previous summer transfer window, the footballing world went crazy after rumours that Ronaldo was heading out of the Real Madrid exit.

However, the club's talisman put pen to paper on a new deal to stay with the Spanish giants, while his release clause remained at an eye-watering £886million.

Messi followed suit with a new deal and committed his future to Barcelona at the end of November, as the Catalan giants slapped a £626million price-tag on the Argentine.

A surprise omission from the list is the world's most expensive player, Neymar, who is available for the £198million fee he joined Paris Saint-Germain for.

Florentino Perez, Madrid's president, has a habit for making his stars impossible to buy, as eight of the top 10 most expensive buy-out clause are attached to his players.
