Trump thinks Lee would be easily confirmed by the Senate, but the president has expressed concern about keeping the Utah Senate seat in GOP hands, Bloomberg News reported.
“I have a good relationship with the president. He and I don’t see eye to eye on every issue,” Lee told Fox News Thursday, but “he and I see eye-to-eye on most things when it comes to the Supreme Court.”
Lee, 47, a lawyer who served as a clerk to Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito — has said he would accept the nomination and hasn’t ruled out voting for his own confirmation.
Trump has said he wants the next Supreme Court justice he nominates to serve for up to 45 years.
He especially likes five conservative judges on a list of 25 potential candidates prepared by the White House, the oldest of whom is 53, Axios reported:
Brett Kavanaugh, 53, with the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.
Thomas Hardiman, 52, of Pennsylvania.
Amy Coney Barrett, 46, of Indiana.
Amul Thapar, 49, of Kentucky.
Raymond Kethledge, 51, of Michigan.
