Antonio Conte releases statement after Chelsea sacking
Antonio Conte adopted a diplomatic tone in speaking out on Monday for the first time since being sacked by Chelsea, making no reference to any ill-feeling towards the club or players.

The 48-year-old was axed on Friday, 55 days after lifting the FA Cup in his final match in charge and having already overseen the start of pre-season training. Chelsea released a short 61-word statement announcing the departure and Maurizio Sarri was appointed his successor 24 hours later.

In a statement released by the League Managers Association, Conte said: 'I would like to thank all of my friends at Chelsea Football Club for their hard work and support over the past two seasons which enabled us to win the Premier League and FA Cup together.

Conte had 12 months left on his £9million-a-year deal and the Italian wants compensation in full and at once, rather than month by month.

Chelsea's usual policy is to continue to pay a sacked manager's salary until their contract expires or they find a new job.
