Australia’s all-time leading goal-scorer Tim Cahill retired from international football Tuesday, ending an illustrious career that has taken him to four World Cups.
The 38-year-old, who scored 50 international goals in 107 appearances, last played for the Socceroos when he came off the bench for their final group game against Peru at the World Cup in Russia.
The 38-year-old will go down as perhaps the greatest Socceroo of all time, having repeatedly bailed out the national team with stunning goals at vitally important moments.
Many of Cahill's goals came at moments when Australia needed them the most.
His double against Japan at Kaiserslautern in 2006 made him the first Australian player to score at the World Cup, transforming him into a national icon in a flash
