The coordinator of the Taraba State Conditional Cash Transfer programme, Mr Skepra Useni, has said 37,000 poor people across the six local government areas in the state are benefitting from the Federal Government’s Social Intervention for the aged and the poor in the country.
Useni who disclosed this in an interview with our correspondent in Jalingo on Wednesday said the 37,000 beneficiaries were from 8,049 households in Ussa, Takum, Sardauna, Gassol, Ardo Kola and Karim Lamido local government areas.
He explained that the beneficiaries of the programme were selected by the state planning commission with the supervision of the World Bank and local monitors at grassroots level to ensure transparency and effectiveness.
The beneficiaries, he added, would spend two years before graduating from the programme, adding that they were being trained in how to invest their N5,000 monthly stipends towards becoming self-reliant upon graduation.
