President Vladimir Putin congratulated Russia coach Stanislav Cherchesov over the phone for his side's World Cup win over Spain, who were consoled at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium by King Felipe VI.
Photos on Spain's website showed Felipe, who as crown prince attended their 2010 World Cup triumph in South Africa, greeting and consoling captain Sergio Ramos and goalkeeper David De Gea.
The Kremlin also said King Felipe congratulated Putin on the hosts' win, while also having time for "a short exchange of opinions about issues of further development of bilateral relations."
