Tottenham's new stadium may have been hit by delay after delay, but it could at least provide a fitting scene for two devoted fans to make their own bit of history.
Mike Salerno, from New York, not only became one of the first Tottenham fans to step inside the £850million arena, but also broke new ground when got down on one knee and popped the question to his girlfriend Jessica.
Salerno had hoped to propose to Jessica during half-time of their Premier League clash with Liverpool, which was originally scheduled to take place in the all-new stadium on the site of the now-demolished White Hart Lane.
After the fixture was moved to Wembley, Tottenham endeavored to make sure his plan still went ahead without a hitch. And while he had to endure seeing Spurs lose to Liverpool, he will at least return to America with a fiancee.
He told the club's website: 'I'm just relieved! We've been talking about coming here for so long, it's very exciting, and now we've made this stadium a very special place so we'll be returning for many a game.
'A huge thank you to the club for making this run so smoothly when there were so many things that could have gone wrong! It's been absolutely amazing.'
