Sergio Busquets on cusp of extending Barcelona contract with his release clause to be increased to £179m
Barcelona are on the cusp of extending Sergio Busquets' contract on new and improved terms.
An announcement over a new deal is expected in the next few weeks. His current contract runs until 2021 and includes a clause to automatically extend it until 2023 based on the number of games he plays.
But the Nou Camp club want to improve Busquets' salary and bring his wages in line with some of their best paid players.
Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo have reported that further talks between Busquets and Barcelona are scheduled to take place next week to complete the deal.
Meanwhile, Sport are reporting that Busquets' new deal will see his salary climb to a level just below the likes of Lionel Messi.
There will also be an increase in the midfielder's release clause, with the value rising to €200million (£179m).
Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu confirmed in an interview last week that Busquets' new contract had been accounted for in the club's finances.
The 30-year-old La Masia graduate has recently hit 10 years in the Barcelona first-team.
He is edging closer to 500 appearances for the club, who won La Liga last campaign.
Busquets has previously admitted he wants to end his career at the Nou Camp: 'It would be a dream [to retire at Barca], of course I'd like to.
'We must go year by year because football's like this. It depends on how you're feeling and whether injuries respect you, but hopefully it'll be so.'
