President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday called for an emergency meeting between the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the pioneer interim national chairman of the party, Chief Bisi Akande, at the Aso Rock.
It was gathered that the meeting was aimed to resolve the brewing crisis between the former Lagos State governor and his political godson, Governor Akinwumi Ambode ahead of the party’s governorship primary election slated for today. Ambode, who is seeking the mandate of the party to serve for a second term, was visibly absent at the meeting.
A competent Presidency source who confirmed the meeting between President Buhari and the two APC chieftains said that the interest of the president is for the party to remain united ahead of 2019 general elections. “I can confirm to you that the President met Tinubu and Baba Akande. I don’t know of Ambode,” the source told our correspondent in a telephone interview.
Another source privy to the reason of the meeting said that the presidency has been making frantic efforts to intervene in the crisis between Tinubu and Ambode because of the performance of the Lagos State governor who is believed to have performed in delivering on quality projects in the state. The meeting held at the official residence of the President inside the presidential villa.
