Following a major injury, knee ligament damage, Man Utd striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic faces up to 12 months out of action- with this, the 35-year-old Swedish superstar knows his Manchester United career is over.
Ibrahimovic, with his ruptured anterior cruciate knee ligament, his now targeting a return to action in Major League Soccer (MLS) comeback in nine to twelve months and he’s a target for new side Los Angeles FC.
He knows that the recovery time-frame rules him out of playing at the Old Trafford again for United, but he’s determined to play again and wants to make his return in the US provided he can regain his fitness. Also he’s out of contract at the end of the season after stalling on a one-year additional stay at Old Trafford that was initially on the table. He has promised to come back stronger - and Manchester United are expected to help him in his recovery journey.
The Swedish player is United’s top scorer this season with 28 goals in his debut season at Manchester United and first taste of English football. The injury is a major setback to the United striker who had been in an awesome form this season. He had once played for Inter-Milan, Juventus, AC Milan, Barcelona and Paris St German.
He scored the winning goal for United in the EFL Cup final in February, which helped the club manager Jose Mourinho to secure his first piece of major silverware this season.
United boss was already planning on overhauling his attacking line up this summer, with French player Antoine Griezmann his top target.
Ibrahimovic, who will be 36 years in October, has always said he would end his footballing career in America and had received offers from several clubs — including new MLS franchise Los Angeles FC — which would likely be his destination.
LA FC's inaugural season will start in March 2018 and could combine perfectly with his return from injury.
Truth be told, Zlatan in his mind has already moved on from the Red Devils, although the club have generously offered him the use of their medical facilities to aid his recovery knowing he will no longer be there player.
His United team-mate- midfielder Ander Herrera- has backed him to make a full recovery, considering the fact that he is so fit and determined.
“Of course he can come back,” said the Spanish midfielder. “First, because he’s privileged physically. He’s physique, his body is one of the best I have ever seen, so I think it will be easier for him to get back than others.
“But of course he is 35. He will have to work very, very hard, and be very patient.
"But I have no doubt he will be back because he loves football, he loves to win, he loves to score goals.
“He loves to train every day. Every day he wants to win, every box, every football, tennis, everything in training.
"So I have no doubt he will be back.”
Zlatan needed an operation to rebuild his shattered knee and is expected to travel for surgery in the States.
