The suspects, Prince Richard Nwoko and Prince Ejimofor Nwoko, were reportedly arrested in the premises of the Magistrates Court, Asaba, after several unsuccessful attempts by the police to pin them down over alleged offence of compounding felony.
According to police source yesterday, efforts are being made to arrest the principal suspect and others, including the crown Prince, Nonso, so as to ensure that the real culprit are punished for their atrocity.
Further report revealed that normalcy has since returned in the community after the police arrested and detained the suspects.
The intervention of the police came as a result of the petition they received from one Walter Eziashi, a former president-general of Idumuje-Ugboko development union.
Eziashi alleged that after the rape, some royal princes and others covered up the case after sanctioning the suspect and imposing a fine of four goats and the sum of N400,000 on him.
Mr. Eziashi's petition also attracted female lawyers in Nigeria, under the aegis of International Federation of Women Lawyers,FIDA, and they called for thorough investigation to give justice to the teenager.
The Public Relations Officer, FIDA, Delta State, Mrs. Stellamaris Mejulu, expressed delight with the arrest of the suspects and urged the police to prosecute all those linked to the case.
Mr. Anthony Aniemeka, the Police Public Relations Officer ,when contacted said that the police were still investigating the case.
