Veteran Nollywood actor, Olumide Bakare, is dead. The Yoruba movie actor passed on Saturday morning in Ibadan.
Olumide Bakare was a veteran actor; he was born on November 26, 1953. He was a father of three children from two women.
He started his acting career in full time from Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) as Chief Koko, when he was casted in the popular sitcom, Koko Close. He was known as Chief Koko by many of his fans, this was due to the role he played as a troublesome landlord in the rested sitcom.
He gained more popularity for the major role he played in the Yoruba movie industry. During his time as an active actor he took part in so many block-buster movies and soap, notable among them was the popular soap, Papa Ajasco and Company from the stable of Wale Adenuga production.
He’s of the opinion that his relationship with God did not have anything to do with his habits and that God only care about his heart.
When he was interview by Encomium Magazine he said:
“God doesn’t care about habit but your heart. How clean is your heart to God and people around you? How do you sail across the ocean of your life and all that? All these are what God cares about. It is not about whether you smoke or drink. Even those who don’t smoke and drink, worse things happen to them. I am a very straight forward person I have been in all these habits for about 45 years and I want to tell you, no shaking.”
Olumide professional acting career came to an untimely end when he fell critically ill in the year 2013. He was flown abroad for a surgical operation and later returned home. He was no longer active in the movie industry thereafter.
In February 2017, his health deteriorated and he was once again critically ill. His health condition did not improve due to a heart and lung related illness diagnosed by medical expert. He quit smoking Indian Hemp in 1998 after indulging himself for 30 years since 1968.
Olumide Bakare needed about N30,000 daily for diagnosis after having spent over a million naira on his health. Many of his fans and well-wishers came to his aid as funds were raised to foot his medical bill.
He underwent a surgical operation at the University Teaching Hospital, UCH, Ibadan, Oyo State, shortly before his death.
He was said to had died from a disease diagnosed as Dissecting Aortic Aneurysm and Pulmonary Embolism.
