Court remands former Governor of Niger state, Babangida Aliyu in prison


A High Court sitting in Minna ordered that former Governor of Niger state, Babangida Aliyu, as well as Umar Mohammed Nasko, the 2015 election governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic
Party, be remanded in Minna medium Prisons on Tuesday until a ruling on bail application which will be on May 3rd, 2017.

Justice Aliyu Mayaki , the presiding Judge over the case, said the case is to be opened on June 12, 2017 and will go on daily till June 16.

Also the court will rule on the bail application on 3rd May, 2017. But in the meantime, the accused persons are to be remanded in Medium Security prisons in Minna, Niger State.

Gbolahan Latona, the Lead Counsel for the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, had placed six charges against the formal governor.

Both Aliyu and Nasko pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them by the presiding Judge- Justice Mayaki.
