Amid tight security in major cities of France, in preparation for the much anticipated presidential election scheduled to commence on April 23, local police arrested two suspected gunmen at Marseille, southern France, on suspicion of planning to sabotage the forthcoming election.
The police source said “authorities have been hunting the pair since on Saturday”.
“They were seized a few minutes apart in the southeastern port city”.
“The two men appeared to have turned to radical Islam during a term in prison”.
“A search of a rented apartment was underway”.
France electorate would be going out to the polls to elect who would succeed the outgoing president, François Hollande, who has been in power since 15 May 2012.
France has experienced similar attack in the past, which has led to the declaration of a state of emergency, in the face of Islamist militant attacks in Paris and other parts of the country in which more than 230 people have been killed.
