Football expert Phil McNulty have said tonight's game is a crucial Manchester derby as the battle for places in the Premier League's top four intensifies in the closing weeks of the season.
"Manchester United go into this meeting with Manchester City on the back of 23 unbeaten league games stretching back to October while Pep Guardiola's side must recover from the disappointment of the FA Cup semi-final defeat against Arsenal at Wembley.
Jose Mourinho may just feel his United team have the greater confidence and momentum - but City have the attacking threat to beat anyone when they get it right and the stakes are high here at Etihad Stadium"
City boss Pep Guardiola says United's Michael Carrick - who is captain tonight - is "one of the best midfielders I've ever seen".
The former England player, 35, is at the same level as World Cup winners Xabi Alonso and Sergio Busquets - according to the man who has managed both Spaniards at club level.
"He's one of the best holding midfielders I've ever seen in my life, by far," Guardiola said.
