Man City 5-0 Crystal Palace: City punish Palace to move third place

Manchester City moved back up to third in the Premier League with a brilliant victory over Crystal Palace, who slipped to a third consecutive defeat.

City needed only two minutes to break through Palace's makeshift defence, with David Silva slotting home on his return from a hamstring injury.

The hosts doubled their lead three minutes into the second half when captain Vincent Kompany's sublime finish found the top corner and Kevin de Bruyne made it three with a low effort from the edge of the area.

Palace's nightmare day was compounded when Raheem Sterling half-volleyed past goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey before Nicolas Otamendi headed home in injury time.

Sam Allardyce's side remain five points above the relegation zone but could be pulled further into danger if Hull City and Swansea win on Saturday.
