The Nigerian Army, 82 Division, Enugu, has confirmed the arrest of a fake soldier identified as Mr. Abdullahi Auwal Yakubu at Kara, Atani road, Onitsha, Anambra state.

Col. Sagir, the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 82 Division, who confirmed the arrest said the alleged impersonator was arrested
by a naval patrol team. According to him, Yakubu was arrested fully dressed in Nigerian Army camouflage and combat boots.

“on interview, the man could not provide correct answers to the questions put up to him, thereby exposing him as an obvious impersonator.”

“Further questioning revealed that the culprit had been in the habit of harassing and extorting members of the public under the guise of being a soldier with fake identification card as evidence.”

Musa added that the Yakubu had since been questioned at the Regiment’s Military Police Orderly Room, with the view to handing him over to the police for subsequent action.

“He had since been questioned at the military police orderly room with the view to handing him over to the civil police. Members of the public are please requested to take note of the occasional tendency of hoodlums who disguise as military personnel with intent to defraud unsuspecting members of the public”.

He admonished members of the public to take note of criminals who masked as military personnel to defraud innocent victims

“The public are also requested to report such bad elements whenever they see or suspect such person to the nearest police station or any security office close to them in order to arrest such person” Musa stated.
