APPALLING footage has appeared showing a man ‘slitting his own throat’ in central Glasgow, Scotland.
According to the footage, the man was walking down West Nile Street with two knives in front of traumatized onlookers (children and adults).
He then seems to make a slashing gesticulation to his throat as he stops in front of a black car in the middle of the road.
The knifeman – dressed in dark clothing – is then seen being pepper-sprayed by cops and taken to hospital in an ambulance.
Based on the report, another passer-by who asked not to be named and want to remain anonymous, said: “I was going to All Bar One and I heard a guy shouting. The guy was trying to take his own life. He had two orange Stanley blades and a hatchet.
“Police came flying down then a guy on a bike told me he was going to step in to try and help but didn’t want to get to close.
“The police started shouting, ‘Drop the knife, drop the knife’.
“He was going round in circles, back and forth. He was trying to hurt himself.
“Then he did it and there was blood squirting out everywhere.
“The police pepper sprayed him and he fell to the ground and the ambulance came and he was stretchered away.
“I’ve seen some things in my time, mates being stabbed, but that was crazy.”
An office worker who filmed the incident gasped in horror as another man could be overheard saying: “Jeez – oh, what’s he doing? There’s a woman walking right past him. What’s she doing?”
Another onlooker added: “She didn’t realise. They didn’t have a clue. Oh my god – how’s somebody walking by him?
The police challenge the man in the street as the observers say: “They need to get him quickly … just grab him before he collapses.
“They need to be careful, he’s sitting with a knife. OH MY GOD he’s still going.”
He later died of his injuries after eyewitnesses described how he “calmly slit his own throat” in front of horrified children despite efforts to save him by the police.
Police say the man was involved in an assault at about 4pm before walking away and inflicting serious injuries on himself in Glasgow city centre.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Around 4.05pm this afternoon, an assault took place in St Vincent Street, Glasgow.
“The suspect made his way on foot towards West Nile St where he then inflicted serious injuries upon himself. Officers attended and the incident was very quickly contained.
“The man was taken by ambulance to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where he died a short time later.”
She added: “This was a contained and isolated incident. Enquiries continue, however there are no other persons sought in relation to the incident.”
Bystanders said a family with young children stumbled across the chilling scene as the middle-aged man began “slashing at his neck with a Stanley knife” in the middle of the afternoon.
Police also confirmed it was not a terror-related incident.
