Popular wrestler Roman Reigns has lost his brother Mathew “Rosey” Anoa’i to the cold hands of death.
Rosey was hospitalized because he suffered from a congestive heart failure and atrial fibrillation in 2014. There is no information on how and where he passed away to the press.
Rosey’s comes from a family of wrestlers as the son of a hall of fame wrestler, His younger brother; Roman Reign is a current WWE Superstar. He is also related to The Rock , Umaga(late), Yokozuna(late) and the current tag-team champions The Usos.
Rosey who featured in the WWE from 2002 till 2006 was of the tag team duo 3 Minute Warning.
He was a bodyguard figure to the then RAW general manager Eric Bischoff.
He continued to appear in different wrestling promotions after leaving the WWE including All Japan and AWF.
The news of Rosey’s death first broke on the WWE website where they also shared the family’s comment on the announcement.
“WWE is saddened to learn that Matt Anoa’i, known to fans as Rosey, has passed away at age 47. The son of WWE Hall of Famer Sika and older brother of WWE Superstar Roman Reigns, Rosey grew up in the legendary Anoa’i wrestling dynasty.
He debuted in 2002 alongside his cousin Jamal as part of 3-Minute Warning. The imposing, powerful tandem tore through Raw’s tag team division before going their separate ways. Rosey then formed a beloved superhero duo with The Hurricane, which culminated in his first World Tag Team Championship reign.
The Anoa'i family shared the following statement:
"The Anoa’i family is mourning the loss of Sika's son, Matt aka Rosey, due to an untimely death.
We want to let his fans know that he loved them and the wrestling world so much. In his passing, he left three beautiful young children and a heartbroken family. Please respect the privacy of his children and family as they mourn the loss of this kind, loving, gentle man, who was a father, son, brother and a superhero to us all.
Our family appreciates your prayers and continued support during this very difficult time."
WWE extends its condolences to Rosey’s family, friends and fans.”
Matthew "Matt" Anoaʻi (April 7, 1970 – April 17, 2017)[ was a professional wrestler, best known for his time on the independent circuit under numerous ring names, and his time in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), where he competed as Rosey.
Rosey was divorced, he and his ex-wife, Amanda Vandeberg Schall have two sons, Jordan Iles and Koa Rodney Anoai, and a daughter Madison Alani Anoai. Outside of wrestling, Anoaʻi ran a restaurant called Island Boi BBQ.
He was a member of the Anoaʻi family, a renowned Samoan wrestling family. He, along with his late cousins Eddie Fatu and Matt Fatu, was trained at the Wild Samoan Training Facility headed by his uncle, Afa Anoaʻi. Following his training, he competed in Afa's World Xtreme Wrestling (WXW) promotion.
In 2001, Anoaʻi signed with the WWE and was assigned to Heartland Wrestling Association (HWA) in Cincinnati, Ohio. While situated at HWA, he was placed in tag team competition, alongside Fatu, and the duo won the HWA Tag Team Championship
