Barcelona goalkeeper signs contract extension with £157m release clause

Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen has signed a new contract at Barcelona to stay until 2022 at Camp Nuo with a buyout clause worth £157million in the agreement.

The German who was previously the first choice keeper for only Champions League and Copa del Rey matches in his two previous seasons was later named the club's first-choice goalkeeper for La Liga at the start of this season following Claudio Bravo move to Manchester City in August.

The club official statement stated:

'FC Barcelona announces that it has entered into an agreement with Marc-Andre ter Stegen for the renewal of his contract until 30 June 2022.

'His buyout clause is set at €180million. The new contract will be signed on May 30 at 13:30 at the offices of the club.'

Ter Stegen began most Champions League and La Liga matches in 2016-17, fellow stopper Jasper Cillessen was the starter throughout the victorious Copa del Rey campaign.

He joined Neymar, Luis Suarez and Ivan Rakitic in recently signing contract extensions at the Nou Camp.
