The Arsenal playmaker is out of contract in the summer so will be free to start negotiating with European clubs in January - and according to The Independent Jose Mourinho is also looking at making a move.
Ozil has been linked with moves to United on a number of occasions but the report claims Mourinho is highly confident of landing him this time.
The pair worked together when Mourinho managed Real Madrid and with contract talks for the 28-year-old stalling at the Emirates a deal to United could be on the cards.
The same outlet also claims United are interested in signing Alexis Sanchez.
Manchester City are expected to go for the Chilean forward again after their failed attempt in the summer but United are maintaining their interest according to the paper.
Whether United have interest or not, the general feeling is he will be playing on the other side of the city next season.
