Blessing Olumakinde, 47-year-old, has been sentenced to death by an Ado Ekiti High Court on Tuesday for killing his father, Benson Egunlae, over the man’s estate.
The State Chief Judge, Justice Ayodeji Daramola, who handed the verdict, said the accused was guilty as charged.
Daramola held that the prosecution had proved its case beyond all reasonable doubts.
“The convict should be hanged by the neck until life goes out of him.’’
The trial took about seven years before the judgment on Tuesday.
The State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Owoseni Ajayi, who prosecuted the case, told the court that the deceased had six wives and 18 children.
Ajayi said that the deceased had shared his property including land among his children.
Apparently unhappy with what was allotted to him, Blessing, reportedly traced his father to his farm on the outskirts of Ado Ekit, attacked him with a cutlass and an axe and killed him and fled the town, he said.
Ajayi said the accused, however, showed up after six months in hiding.
