Romelu Lukaku named player of the season

Everton striker Romelu Lukaku has been named player of the season at the club's annual awards ceremony in Liverpool on Tuesday night.

Lukaku was feted at the city's Philharmonic Hall after his 24 goals in the Premier League this campaign spearheaded the club's charge back to European football after two years outside of continental competition.

The Belgian striker has been linked with a move away from Goodison Park this summer, but Lukaku was delighted to pick up his award and is focused on ending the season on a high, starting against Watford on Friday night. The league's top scorer picked up the main prize, but Tom Davies scooped a hat-trick of awards with the 18-year-old's goal and performance in the 4-0 win over Manchester City in January accounting for two of his gongs.

Davies has been one of the breakthrough stars of the Premier League season, and the Everton academy graduate was a popular winner of the young player award after becoming a first-team regular since the start of 2017.

'[It's surreal] being here tonight,' Davies told the club's official website. 'You see everyone turning out, taking pictures and so it's unusual but it's a good feeling. Meeting a lot of people and giving signatures, it's great to meet the fans.'

Meanwhile, the club announced a new three-year community partnership with current shirt sponsors Chang from June 1, following on from the conclusion of the existing main partner agreement.
