The Director General of The Electoral Institute, Prof. Abubakar Momoh, is dead.Multiple reports indicate that Prof. Momoh died after a protracted illness.

Members of a WhatsApp group, which has the spokesman of the Pro-National Democratic Coalition, Wale Okunniyi, as its Administrator, confirmed the development.

Momoh is also a member of the WhatsApp group known as Nigeria Democracy Platform.

Momoh, an activist, was appointed by the Independent National Electoral Commission as the DG of TEI on July 22, 2013, but effective August 1, 2013.

Momoh, a Professor of Political Science, was until his appointment as the boss of TEI the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Lagos State University.

He obtained a Ph.D in Political Theory.

He started lecturing in 1988 and has served on various Boards and Scientific Committees, including those of the Centre for Democracy and Development and the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa.

He has more than 70 publications to his credit.

He was also the Vice President of African Association of Political Science and a researcher and lecturer at many universities across the world.
