First Half ends, Southampton 0, Manchester United 0

The Premier League match between Southampton and Manchester United ended goalless at Half time, although Southampton got a penalty which was conceded by Eric Bailly but was saved by the United goalkeeper Sergio Romero.

Before the game started, sport commentator Conor McNamara said:

"Bettering last season's top-six place was always going to be difficult for Southampton but this will be the first time in seven years that the club won't have improved their final league position.

"Manchester United, meanwhile, must win both remaining league fixtures or Jose Mourinho will end his debut campaign with fewer league victories than in any of the previous three seasons under David Moyes and Louis van Gaal.

"Having put all his eggs in the Europa League basket - making eight changes ahead of defeats to both Arsenal and Tottenham - Mourinho must decide whether further rest or battle-hardiness is the best preparation for facing Ajax in Stockholm."
