The Lagos Fourth Mainland Bridge project has been halted by the government and the contracts of the Nigerian investors terminated.
Adebowale Akinsanya, Commissioner for Waterfront and Infrastructure Development, speaking on the proposed N844 billion bridge, told reporters Monday, in Alausa, Lagos, that the government was considering proposals from foreign investors in the United States of America and Britain to accelerate the commencement of the project.
The Commisioner said the government terminated the contract of the former contractors, including Africa Financial Corporation (AFC) and other investors, following delay in kick starting the project.
Access Bank PLC and Visible Assets Ltd, investors in the 38-km bridge and road project also had their contract terminated by the government just a year after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the construction.
The commissioner assured residents that the government will ensure appropriate investors are named soon.
Temidayo Erinle, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Works and Infrastructure and an engineer, speaking on the planned airport road project, said: “We are yet to get Federal Government’s approval. We assure Lagosians that whenever we get approval, engineers will move to site.
“We are collaborating with the Federal Government on the Apapa road because it is a federal road.”
