Man City striker Sergio Aguero set for talks after being left out of Argentina squad

Sergio Aguero is set for talks with the new Argentina coach after being left out of their latest squad.

The Argentine was dropped - not for the first time in the last 12 months - for their upcoming friendlies with Brazil and Singapore despite enjoying his most prolific season with Manchester City.

A strong finish to the campaign ensured he finished with 33 goals under Pep Guardiola in all competitions, over 20 more than any of his team-mates.

Aguero is looking for as much game time as possible to try and make the cut for what could be his last World Cup - but it could be out of his hands.

Lionel Messi, Paulo Dybala, Gonzalo Higuain and Mauro Icardi are among the forwards to have been preferred for the latest round of fixtures and Jorge Sampoli labelled the first two as 'very important for Argentina'.

Having left Sevilla at the end of the season to take up the role, the coach is prepared to sit down with Aguero to see what role he can play going forward.

"We know Aguero very well and we value what he has done at Manchester City and he will be evaluated and taken into account in the future," he said.

"Competition in his position is very tough because there are three or four outstanding players.

"We will talk to him and see how he feels. He can be a great contributor for us."
