Wall collapses, killing 9-year-old girl in Edo

A primary three pupil was sent to a commercial borehole to fetch water. As she bent down to take water from a bowl, the four feet high wall raised to support the water pipes fell down on her.

The 9-year-old girl, Choice Izevbaye died after a wall collapsed at Osarehen Street, Off Powerline Road, Ogida quarters in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State.

The deceased's mother blamed Mr. Osawa Edigin the landlord and operator of the borehole for his laxity towards the bad condition of the wall.

She told reporters that residents of the area have made several complaints about the state of the borehole.

Youths and members of the deceased girl's family destroyed Edigin borehole site in anger.

DSP Moses Nkomb, the spokesperson for Edo State Police Command who said the police was investigating possible negligence leading to the deceased girl's death, confirmed the incident confirmed the landlord and operator have been arrested.

Three members of the bereaved family were also arrested for alleged cruel damage to Mr Edigin, he said.
