| Evita Delmundo |
She has borne the brunt of peoples taunts because of the moles on her body and was bullied by her peer groups in primary school for years.
She was called a monster by her classmate who nicknamed her “chocolate chip cookie”.
Delmundo who is the 2nd born in the family of seven is going to contest for Miss Universe. Her mother is a Filipino and her father is a Malaysian who is from the Rungus group of people in the city of Kota Kinabalu on the Malaysian island of Borneo.
In spite of the heartbreaks and names that she was been called by her classmate she refuses to go for surgery and has decided to run for Miss Malaysia.
Delmundo gained confidence as she entered secondary school because she was loved and supported by her peers especially from her mother who was a teacher in that school.
"It definitely wasn't easy for me. I got bullied in primary school and the other kids would call me names like 'Monster' or 'Chips more', which was really tough to swallow as a young girl.
"In primary school, no one wanted to be friends with me. I remember a teacher having to ask two girls to accompany me during recess, and they were whispering 'why do we have to treat her like a princess?'
"It broke my heart. I told them that they don't have to follow me and they went off immediately. Basically, I was a lonely girl," Delmundo said.
When Delmundo was 16 years old, she has always dreamed of removing the moles but the doctor said that there will be a threat to her health if she undergoes the surgery and she was determined to accept her body
"accept that this is the body I've been given."
For her to be believe in herself she learned how to play the guitar and took singing classes. She also works part-time at a local cafe and hopes that her personality will make other people accept the look of their body.
Delmundo said that specialists confirmed her moles to be ordinary moles and could be the skin disease Giant Congenital Melanocytic Nevus.
On June 17 she auditioned for Miss Universe Malaysia which last year's winner was Samantha Katie James and she is waiting to see if she made it to the next.
She said that even though she does not make it to the next round, it will not bring down her confidence and she would continue contesting for beauty pageant until she wins.
"I learnt to accept my birthmarks and love myself. I slowly gained confidence to show off my uniqueness.
"The judges asked me a couple of questions, like how would I promote Malaysia if I won Miss Universe Malaysia?
"I'm just keeping my fingers crossed. If I don't get through, there's always another platform," she said.
