Osun 2018: Aregbesola’s SSG dumps APC

The Secretary to the Osun State Government, Moshood Adeoti, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mr Adeoti on Friday withdrew from the APC governorship primary in the state. He alleged that it was rigged in favour of eventual winner,  Gboyega Oyetola. 

Mr Adeoti announced his resignation in a July 21 letter seen by PREMIUM TIMES.

“I hereby wish to notify you of my decision to resign my membership of the the All Progressives’ Congress.” the letter read. 

“I wish to reiterate my commitment to the progress of the state in whatsoever capacity I find myself in the future.” Mr Adeoti said in the letter to the APC chairman in his Ward 12 of Iwo local government.

Contacted, Mr. Adeoti confirmed he wrote the letter but declined further comment.

“I tendered the resignation letter,” he told PREMIUM TIMES via telephone. 

The politician had on July 20 accused his party of manipulating its primary to elect a candidate for the September governorship election in the state.

He thereafter withdrew from the primary.

Mr. Adeoti described the exercise as a mere endorsement of Mr. Oyetola.

“The primaries was arranged, skewed and designed to favour Alhaji Isiaka Gboyega Otedola, the cousin of the National Leader of our party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” Mr Adeoti’s campaign organisation had said in a statement.

Mr. Adeoti said there was no credible register of members with which a free, fair and transparent ‘direct primaries’ could have beeen conducted.

Aspirants criticised the party after its chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, announced the use of direct primaries system.

The direct primary means all card-carrying members of the APC are eligible to vote.

But twelve of the 17 governorship aspirants criticised the move. They said there was no comprehensive register of APC members across Osun State.

Mr Oyetola was later elected candidate of the party despite their protests.

He will represent the APC in the September 22 governorship election in the state.
