Aruna Quadri, qualified for the round of 32 in the men’s singles event of the 2018 ITTF Nigeria Open defeating Italy’s Amato Antonino 4-0 (11-7, 14-12, 11-6, 11-5) on Friday, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Quadri will face Assar Khalid from Egypt in the round of 32 later today (Friday) by 6:50pm.
Khalid spanked Abdullahi Abdulrahman 4-1 (5-11,6-11,8-11,11-3,4-11) in the round of 64.
Segun Toriola also joined Quadri in the last 32, holding his nerve in the last deciding game to beat China’s Xinyang Wang 4-2.
In table 3, Kazeem Makanjuola also defeated Yadav Abhishek 4-1 (11-9,11-4,10-12,11-4,11-3). He will face Idowu Saheed in the next round. Idowu edged out Oladiran Joshua from Nigeria 4-0 (9-11,8-11,10-12,8-11).
Kazeem Nasiru also defeated Lawal Abiodun from Congo 4-2 (9-11,12-10,11-3,11-6,7-11,13-11). Nasiru will face EL-Beiali Mohamed in the round of 34.
In the women’s singles, Funke Oshonaike and Akpan Cecelia made it to the round of 16 while eight other Nigerian crashed out.
Oshonaike spanked Elodie Ho Wan Kau from Mauritius, 4-0 (11-9,11-6,11-4,11-4) to progress to the next round of the women’s singles where she will face Fan Siqi.
