The camp of Senator Magnus Abe of the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has faulted the delegates list used by the camp of Transport Minister, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi that produced Tonye Dele- Cole as its governorship candidate during the party’s primaries.
Both camps had conducted parallel primaries with Abe emerging as the governorship candidate in his camp through direct primaries while Dele-Cole emerged through indirect primary in Amaechi’s camp. Abe’s camp, which spoke through Worgu Boms, the former Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General in the Amaechi administration, said it was “illegal to use council chairmen whose tenure at the Councils were nullified by the Federal High court, as delegates in that primary election.”
Boms said that anything that has been nullified by a competent court is seen to be non-existent in the eye of the law, stressing that “the use of the affected persons as delegates for the indirect primaries conducted by the other people (Amaechi) is, to say the least, a furtherance of a sustained culture of lawlessness”. He stated that Justice Lambo Akanbi of the Federal High Court one had in 2016 nullified the tenure of the council chairmen hurriedly elected when Amaechi was about leaving office as governor, adding that the judgment has not been vacated by any superior court.
