The Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose has approved the extension of maternity
leave from 3months to 4 months. This announcement was made on Monday at an enlightenment forum, by Mr. Kola Ajumobi the Permanent Secretary of Information, Youths and Sports
Development in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.
The extension will include 2hrs off duty period for 6months which will start from the
date of resumption from maternity leave.
Ajumobi said the idea is to promote good nutrition for mothers and their babies by giving more time for mothers to exclusively breast their babies in the first six months of birth.
This is part of the Fayose-led administration to reduce mother-child mortality and morbidity rate to the barest minimum Ajumobi added.
he said the state secretariat has been improved upon to better cater to nursing mothers to further increase work efficiency and performance.
Ajumobi said the government is empowering more women in small and medium enterprises to reduce poverty and hunger with a 500m revolving loan.
Ajumobi said there are active laws to punish offenders who perpetrate harmful traditional rites on women such as widowhood rites and inheritance. He further said that wife beaters and rapist will get life sentence.
