Serena Wiliams to boycot pending tournament this year

The World Number 2 tennis superstar,  Serena Williams, who was earlier reported to be expecting a baby later this year, is expected to return to world number one next week.

Under the World Tennis Association special ranking rule, Serena could retain her title, only if she is ready to play her first tournament within 12 months of giving birth, . Serena Williams earlier in the week captioned a photo “20 weeks” on her Snapchat. She was seen in a yellow sexy swimsuit which shows her to be heavily pregnant.

The tennis superstar sometimes in December last year announced her engagement to Alexis Ohanian, a 33 years old, Brooklyn, New York City born, tech entrepreneur. Alexs, a tech entrepreneur and co-founder of Reddit, a social news website.

Before, Williams and the Reddit co-founder announced their engagement on their various social media accounts; they have been secretly seeing each other for over 15 months, after meeting in Rome. The Tennis star wrote Serena wrote:

“I came home / A little late / Someone had a bag packed for me.

“And a carriage awaited / Destination: Rome.

“To escort me to my very own “charming” / Back to where our stars first collided.

“And now it was full circle / At the same table we first met by chance.

“This time he made it not by chance / But by choice.

“Down on one knee / He said 4 words /And I said yes.”

And Alexis shared the happy news on his Facebook page writing: “She said yes”.

Based on her (Serena) “20 weeks” caption photo, we can conclude that she was 8 weeks pregnant as at when she competed along side with her sister Venus at the recent Australian tournament, which she emerged victorious.

Tennis superstar Serena Williams has been confirmed pregnant and she will be taking maternity leave through the rest of 2017.

Her spokeswoman said Serena is expected to give birth this fall, in an announcement that upended a sport the 35-year-old athlete has dominated for the past decade.

The confirmation that she would be out of this year’s tournament, came hours after Williams, due to regain to the No. 1 world ranking next week, set off a day of frenzied speculation with a short-lived selfie posted on social media, she posed in a yellow one-piece swimsuit on Snapchat with the caption: “20 weeks.”

Williams deleted the photo shortly after it appeared and waited more than six hours to make any public comment, the photo had generated a lot of controversies among her fans and colleagues.

“I’m happy to confirm Serena is expecting a baby this fall,” Los Angeles-based publicist Kelly Bush Novak said.

This decision would enable her be in the right frame of mind before he delivery date, Bush Novak said. Williams would be absent from the 2017 season and return next year.

Following her social media stint yesterday a lot of calculations and speculations have been in the air, with many pointing to the fact that the tennis superstar was in fact 8 weeks pregnant when she won the won the Australia open last year in Melbourne going by her revelation on snapchat yesterday.

Serena who after winning the Austalia open has not played since then citing a knee injury has set social media agog with a lot of congratulatory messages from fans and colleagues.

Williams is currently the highest paid female tennis player with a net worth of about $150 Million. Williams, has played professionally for two decades, first gained the No. 1 ranking in 2002 and has held that spot for more than six years in total during her career.

She is frequently tipped to be the greatest female tennis player of all time.
