To stop murder and suicide videos, Facebook plan to hire thousands

Facebook said on Wednesday that it would hire another 3,000 people to view videos of crime and suicides — after a recent string of postings that included a murder on the social networking site.

That’s in addition to the existing 4,500 reviewers already on Facebook’s community operations team, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a post.

“These reviewers will also help us get better at removing things we don’t allow on Facebook like hate speech and child exploitation,” Zuckerberg wrote. “And we’ll keep working with local community groups and law enforcement who are in the best position to help someone if they need it — either because they’re about to harm themselves, or because they’re in danger from someone else.”

Zuckerberg said that just last week, Facebook received a report that someone on Live was considering suicide.

“We immediately reached out to law enforcement, and they were able to prevent him from hurting himself,” he wrote. “In other cases, we weren’t so fortunate.”

Last month, deranged Cleveland gunman Steve Stephens randomly shot and killed innocent 74-year-old Robert Goodwin Sr. and streamed the execution on Facebook.
