Video: NAPTIP rescues 468 trafficked victims

President Muhammadu Buhari has called on the 123 State-Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court to support the court’s jurisdiction over serious cases of corruption and illicit financial flows by state actors.

The President made the call at The Hague in his speech to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Rome Statute of the ICC.

The International Criminal Court was established twenty years ago as a global court, inspired by the Nuremberg trials of World War II war criminals, to hold people accountable for crimes against humanity, war crimes, crimes of genocide and aggression.

====UN Deputy Secretary-General, Amina Mohammed, has commended Nigeria for issuing the world’s first fully-certified sovereign green bond, a N10.69 billion bond, also known as climate bond.

Mohammed, who gave the commendation at the launch of a book at the UN headquarters in New York, said Nigeria was the first African country to issue a certified sovereign green bond and the world’s fourth sovereign issuer of green bonds.

Green bonds are fixed income securities issued to finance projects that have positive impact on the environment.

====The Federal Government says electricity generation from hydro sources could reach 19,000 megawatts once they are fully harnessed.

The Minister of Science and Technology, Mr Ogbonnaya Onu, who stated this, said Nigeria required a minimum of 160, 000 megawatts of electricity but currently generated only 7, 000 megawatts.


The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) says it has rescued 468 victims of human trafficking in the last six months.

NAPTIP’s Command in Benin Zone said that about 30 suspected human traffickers were arrested; two were convicted, while 33 cases were still pending in various courts within the period.

The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has received the maiden Blueprint Newspaper award for his contributions to rail development and building of the first monorail system in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Gov. Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele and Senator Shehu Sani representing Kaduna Central also received awards at the Blueprint Impact Series/Awards ceremony held in Abuja.
