'He's one of the world's best': Fabio Capello hails Real Madrid's Luka Modric as Inter Milan continue pursuit

Fabio Capello has sung the praises of Inter Milan target Luka Modric as the midfielder gets set for talks with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.

Inter are looking to make a statement signing this summer following the arrivals of Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus and Gonzalo Higuain at rivals AC Milan.

And they have been heavily linked with Modric, who won the World Cup Golden Ball after playing an instrumental role as Croatia progressed to the final before losing to France in Moscow.

And in an exclusive interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Capello has hailed Modric before saying Madrid will play hard ball with Inter.

Capello told the Italian paper: 'He's one of the world's best. but Real will put up a wall. With Ronaldo, Serie A is great again. Higuain? Milan now mean business.'

La Gazzetta report that the Croat is set to have crunch showdown talks with Perez on Friday, where the midfielder will tell him he wants to play for Inter.

However, Madrid are desperate to keep hold of their star midfielder Modric and are ready to offer him a huge new contract to fend off Inter's interest.

Real have no intention of selling Modric and are willing to increase his £138,000-a-week wages, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.
